Join Me for a Caribbean Art Cruise February 2016

Art Cruise dates : February 27 - March 6, 2016

Cruising is the ultimate way to relax and recharge. Imagine unpacking just once and being transported to beautiful tropical islands. All your needs are taken care of leaving you free.... free to create art and practice the art of relaxation.

Escape the cold this winter and join me on an 8 night Eastern Caribbean cruise on the beautiful Carnival Breeze.

What is special about an Art Cruise?
  • Visit four wonderful islands in the Eastern Caribbean. This itinerary includes some of my favorite ports of call: St. Thomas USVI, St. Maarten NA, Antigua and Amber Cove, Dominican Republic. This itinerary also has three sea days.
  • Learn the practice of 'Plein Air Lite'... how to simplify our supplies and painting process. We will learn how to paint with less and experience more.

  • Discover the art of the sketchbook. The ship and the islands provide perfect material for our travel sketch journals. We will keep a multimedia sketch journal.

  • Explore the ports of call with your camera on our photo safaris. Discover how to get the best shots with any camera. Learn how to see better and make better use of your photos for painting references.
  • Discover the wonderful world of painting small and give 'Lounge Chair Painting' a try. Learn tips and tricks for keeping things simple.

  • Learn pastel painting techniques and tips for painting the tropical scenery through my demonstrations, instruction and hands-on help. Clouds, skies, water, sand, tropical flora, colorful buildings and adding figures to a landscape will all be covered.
  • Meet new friends who share the same Art Spirit as you. Share your passion with other like minded artists.
  • Slow down. Relax. Spoil yourself. Let the warm sunshine and gentle tropical breezes release the paintings that are waiting to come out!

Join me in Pecos New Mexico October 2015

'The Magic of New Mexico'            5x7        plein air pastel            ©Karen Margulis
purchase this painting here $95
Painting expressive plein air pastels involves all of our senses. It also requires the act of simplification. Removing the unnecessary. Making a simple plan and then letting go. Infusing a painting with emotion and beauty.

In our busy lives it is hard to do this. I have a proposal for you. Imagine immersing yourself into this world of simple beauty. Imagine taking the time to really see. Learn to use your senses to simplify and paint with expression and passion.

I have been invited to teach a pastel workshop in such a place. Consider joining me the week of October 7-14 for a Pastel Workshop Retreat at a wonderful Abbey in Pecos, New Mexico near Santa Fe.
'By the River'         5x7        pastel         $95

The Abbey has a retreat center and lovely grounds which includes a pond and wonderful trees. There is a river, distant mountain views, old buildings....plenty of painting inspiration. It is the perfect place for immersing ourselves for a few days in the wonderful world of art. We will spend time reflecting, experimenting, seeing and painting the beauty that surrounds us. I will share my techniques and thoughts about painting in a more loose, expressive and simple way. There will be many demos, discussions, feedback sessions and plenty of individual help at your easel.

My First Post

'Summer Reprise'             9x12          pastel         ©Karen Margulis
It's a brand new adventure. And so it deserves a brand new blog. It has always been my dream to travel and paint. I am getting ready to do both this summer! I will be traveling to Albuquerque New Mexico in June for the International Association of Pastel Societies Biennial convention. I am very excited!
After the convention I will have two days before I head to Europe for a month! I will be teaching in France with Stan Sperlak and then heading to Sweden to visit a friend. From Sweden I travel to Finland to teach a plein air workshop. It is a dream come true!
